The University of North Carolina (UNC) systems campuses are required by UNC General Administration to report specific community engagement and economic development (CEED) metrics for academic year 2014-2015. A UNCG Report was created, by ICEE, to summarize and analyze UNCG’s responses to the metric areas.

The 2015 UNC Engagement Report titled “Creating Impact in North Carolina Communities and the Economy was created by UNC General Administration; and it includes the first-time synthesis of data collected from the UNC Community and Economic Engagement Metrics for the 2013-2014 academic year. The UNC General Administration provides the executive summary, the full report, a data infographic, and the complete series of narrative reports submitted by each campus. Annual institutional indicators for measuring the progress and impact of community engagement and economic development by the University of North Carolina System. 

Following the May 2012 UNC System Engagement Summit at UNCW, UNC System President Tom Ross commissioned two multi-campus task forces to develop concise sets of indicators, or metrics, that all UNC campuses could use to assess “progress in community engagement and economic development”. This report shares information from the TRIAL period of the metrics initiative.

This survey on community-university interactions conducted through the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium (n=114) and Greensboro Chamber of Commerce (n=248) allows us to gain a better sense of how UNCG and universities more broadly connect with our local communities.

Themes and recommendations from a series of facilitated faculty dialogues that discussed a common and rigorous approach to assessing the quality and impact of all forms of scholarly activities and products, including community-engaged scholarship.

Reports Prepared for Accreditations, Recognitions, and Awards

The Institute for Community and Economic Engagement prepared UNCG’s 2015 application to be re-classified as a community-engaged institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. UNCG was first classified as a community-engaged institution in 2008 in two categories: curricular engagement and outreach and partnerships.

The Institute for Community and Economic Engagement prepared part of UNCG’s narrative for the 2014 re-accreditation to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Specifically, ICEE prepared the response to Standard 3.3.1.5: Community/Public Service within its mission.

UNCG’s Office of Leadership & Civic Engagement oversees UNCG’s application to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, a distinction that UNCG has received annually since 2006.  **No link to file**
