Are you interested in collaborating on projects that connect UNCG to the greater Greensboro community through the design of the built environment? Do you have a passion for community and civic engagement? Do you want to be part of a team engaged in meaningful projects using your skills and knowledge to address community issues?

The Center for Community-Engaged Design in the Department of Interior Architecture at UNCG seeks applicants for the CC-ED Student Fellowships in 2015-16. These competitive, paid fellowships are open to all students at UNCG in good standing, with a preference given to students in Interior Architecture and Art or to students with previous experience in community engagement.

These competitive, paid fellowships are open to all students at UNCG in good standing, with a preference given to students with previous experience in community engagement or design. In addition to Student Fellows, there will be one or more Community Fellows from the broader community who will collaborate with UNCG students and faculty through the Center for Community-Engaged Design to take on issues such as affordable housing, sustainability, public art and design, transportation, and education, to name a few.

Specific projects include:

  1. a tiny house project with the Interactive Resource Center,
  2. a research and programming project with The Servant Center in Glenwood,
  3. a sustainable planning project for the Glenwood neighborhood, and
  4. affordable housing research and design for the City of Greensboro.

Responsibilities for Student Fellows include working 8-16 hours/week in the CCED at 842-B W. Lee Street; managing social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Website) for the CC-ED; researching topics connected to the work of the CC-ED; leading design workshops with community groups connected to design projects; and designing projects that will range in scale from that of a painted mural to that of an entire community plan.

Pay for individual fellowships may vary from student to student, depending upon a student’s workload and experience; however, the CC-ED anticipates that the average fellowship stipend will range from $500 to $1,000 per semester. The
total number of fellows will depend upon the number of qualified applicants and the available funding.
