Beginning on April 4th the photovoice component of the Ready for School, Ready for Life Initiative, that is underway in Guilford County, will be displayed. Ready for School, Ready for Life is grounded in the belief that families are key to building a new vision for Guilford County to ensure each child will be ready for school and for a successful life.

The Photovoice Project will be on display from April 4 – 15 in the foyer of the Stone Building. The Photovoice Project is one way we’ve engaged the voices and perspectives of families. This exhibit shares the experiences and recommendations of nine families who are raising children in Guilford County. Each family has one or more children under the age of five. They are a racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse group. They are artists, cosmetologists, teachers, homeschoolers, advocates, and board members. They are married, single, and have completed various levels of education. The families met six times over two months, and received cameras at the first session. Each week, the families took photos focused on one question. Each week, families printed their photos, shared them with the group, and told their stories. The families selected the final photographs and the stories in this display. These are the stories they chose to share with you and our community.

On Friday, April 15th from 2:30 to 4:00 in Edwards Lounge some of the family members as well as the facilitators of the project will discuss the project and what it means to creating change in the Guilford County Community.
