Several community partners came together to provide a three-week camp for 60 McNair Elementary students. They attended the ESL (English as a Second Language) summer school program to work on their reading and math skills and integrated learning with several field trips, including ArtQuest, the Greensboro Science Center and a train trip to Charlotte’s Discovery Place.

High school and college volunteers also worked together, joining the eight McNair teachers in small group instruction. Parents also spent time at school, learning about technology in the school’s Tech Lab.

UNCG’s Center for New North Carolinians helped facilitate the summer program, which served refugee families at the Ashton Woods and Glen Haven Community Centers. The program was also supported by a federal School Impact Grant
