The Institute for Community and Economic Engagement regularly facilitates learning opportunities for faculty, staff, researchers, and advanced graduate students. These opportunities may include stipends, professional development funds, or other financial support, and often feature thought partnership with Institute and UNCG professionals.

Build Your Skills for Communicating Community Engagement

The Knowledge Production Corner Masterclass Series is a curated professional development opportunity offered by the Institute for Community and Economic Engagement. The Fall 2026 Series is designed to help you explore how you can communicate your work to a range of audiences using digital tools and innovative communication methods. It will also encourage you to reflect on how you can build networks, both in person and digitally, and connect more closely with your professional community. And with support from UNCG experts, you will develop new skills you can apply immediately for communicating your work more broadly. 

All meetings are 12-1 on the dates below.

The University Teaching and Learning Commons, the Institute for Community and Economic Engagement, and the University Community Engagement Council are pleased to collaborate and sponsor the Fall 2026 Community Engagement Discussion Group.

We’re excited to focus this year on the community engaged work of our peers here at UNCG, of other institutions, and of community partners across the triad and the country.

Join us to learn more about the standards and strategies for evaluating community-engaged scholarship (CES). Learn how to interpret CES narratives, and assess a wide spectrum of scholarly processes, outputs, and outcomes. This session is designed especially for those who are reviewing narratives and dossiers that include community-engaged scholarship for promotion, tenure, and/or reappointment at UNCG. It is open to anyone who wishes to learn. We look forward to having you attend the event!

On 7 October from 12-1, staff from the Institute for Community and Economic Engagement will lead an introduction session on Ripple Effects Mapping.

Drs. Janke, Wrencher, and Howell are certified REM facilitators, having conducted REM sessions for UNCG units, community partners, and statewide organizations.

Participants are encouraged to join this online-only offering to learn more about REM before scheduling an assessment with the Institute, or as an introduction before completing REM facilitator training and certification, which will continue this semester. Registration for the Lunch and Learn is required, but there is no cost to attend.

The Institute offers regularly-scheduled professional development opportunities that are open to all members of the UNCG community and beyond.

Drop in to a Knowledge Production Corner and make progress on a project. Stop by to chat and connect with community partners and others on a Be Here Club afternoon.

Schedule time to learn more about Ripple Effects Mapping Assessment and the Collaboratory, or join professional development opportunities we curate for our Partnerships and Pathways grant recipients and offer to the broader campus community.

We promote many of these events in the Institute’s newsletter, but not all! Their events pages will give you an idea of all that’s available to you. When registering for these events, you will need to use your UNCG email, and may need to note your campus affiliation.
