The Institute for Community & Economic Engagement at UNCG understands that community-engaged scholarship and practice can be improved by connecting to existing literature, tools, and best practices. Below are links to collections of these valuable resources to assist with improving community engagement practices.

“Community” and “engagement” are two frequently used words that can mean different things to different people. UNCG has thought critically about community engagement in a variety of contexts, including community-engaged scholarship, community-engaged research, community-engaged teaching, and community-engaged service.

Publications & Reports

A variety of helpful publications and reports are authored by UNCG, as well as by community-serving coalitions, on topics related to building stronger communities and scholarly understanding/experiences through partnerships.

Scholarly Resources

ICEE manages a library of scholarly resources on a number of topics, including recognizing and rewarding engaged scholarship in promotion and tenure, partnership development, tracking and assessment of engagement, and more!

Our Scholarship

At ICEE we study community engagement within UNCG and beyond as a distinctive and transformative approach to teaching, research, creative activity, and service, which requires collaborative and reciprocal partnerships. We achieve this through pursuing active research and scholarship. Our research agenda is continually being informed and shaped by our practice, scholarship, and relationships; it is not fixed. At present, our work is broadly encompassed by the following two areas of praxis.

Speaker Series

To propel UNCG’s momentum as a community-engaged university, each year UNCG brings nationally and locally renowned community engagement scholar-practitioners to campus to engage with faculty, staff, students, and community colleagues.

Blogs and Listservs

UNCG is dedicated to helping individuals tap into and contribute to local, national, and international conversations related to enacting high quality community engagement. This page provides a list of listservs and blogs that focus on various scholarly and practical aspects of community engagement.

Community Resources

UNCG is one of many organizations who aggregate data, network resources, and plan for our collective future in the Triad. Our goal is to point you to additional resources provided by colleagues beyond UNCG.
