The Center for New North Carolinians will host the annual conference of the Association for Refugee Service Professionals (ARSP) on October 8 and 9 at UNCG.
Highlights include:
- Keynote address by Larry Yungk, Senior Resettlement Officer, UNHCR
- Keynote address by Erol Kekic, national Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Programs Director
- Report by CNNC Research Fellows on recent ARSP/UNCG visi ts to refugee processing sites in Malaysia (Burmese) and Rwanda (Congolese)
- Update on crisis with Unaccompanied Refugee Children on US border
- Update on immigration reform legislation
- Research update on refugee mental health
- Several workshops on best practices and advocacy issues
Target participants:
Refugee resettlement and service provider professionals, resettlement volunteers, refugee organization representatives (MAAs), community leaders, academic researchers, and students in related fields
