CNNC to host National Refugee Conference at UNCG

The Center for New North Carolinians will host the annual conference of the Association for Refugee Service Professionals (ARSP) on October 8 and 9 at UNCG.

Highlights include:

  • Keynote address by Larry Yungk, Senior Resettlement Officer, UNHCR
  • Keynote address by Erol Kekic, national Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Programs Director
  • Report by CNNC Research Fellows on recent ARSP/UNCG visi ts to refugee processing sites in Malaysia (Burmese) and Rwanda (Congolese)
  • Update on crisis with Unaccompanied Refugee Children on US border
  • Update on immigration reform legislation
  • Research update on refugee mental health
  • Several workshops on best practices and advocacy issues

Target participants:
Refugee resettlement and service provider professionals, resettlement volunteers, refugee organization representatives (MAAs), community leaders, academic researchers, and students in related fields
